Jennifer Hudson gives soulful tribute to Whitney Houston and Clive Davis at Tribeca

At the ongoing Tribeca film festival, Clive Davis is premiering his upcoming biography, so it was natural for tributes to follow in honor of the legendary and one of the most influential record producers of all time. And you can’t honor Clive or tell his story as an executive producer without mentioning the impact of Whitney Houston, who was front and center in his label for as long as she lived, and perhaps even today.

So, when Jennifer Hudson showed-up to honor Davis at the event held at the Radio City Music Hall, New York City, it was easy for everyone to presume it would be a Whitney Houston tribute show.

It should already be established by now, that Hudson is Whitney Houston’s biggest industry-fan. The Grammy winning singer has always shown up whenever she has been called to honor her favorite diva, who she has also called her number one inspiration as a singer.

Clive Davis has produced for artists like Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin, Dionne Warwick and more but it was always Houston, who was the star and the prime highlight of his show. And so she continues to be even today, as also projected in his biography entitled, ‘Clive Davis: The Soundtrack Of Our Lives’: which shows the story of the music Moghul through his own eyes and talks about his influence in the music biz.

The started off by Barry Manilow performing a series of his own hits, after which Hudson took over to give a soulful rendition of the Leonard Cohen classic, ‘Hallelujah’ and then going-in on to perform the iconic “I’m Every Woman” from The Bodyguard Soundtrack, followed by two of Houston’s biggest hits 80’s classic uptempos, ” How Will I Know” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”, as she danced along with the attendees and Davis himself.

Other performs at the event included Earth, Wind & Fire, Dionne Warwick and Paul Simon and of coarse the one and only , Queen Of Soul. Miss Aretha Franklin who sang her own signature classic, ‘You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman’

“Clive Davis: The Soundtrack Of Our Lives” will be available at the ITUNES/Apple Music store after it’s premier at the festival.
