Kendrick Lamar’s latest album opens at #1: Becomes biggest debut of the year

After the massive success and critical acclaim of his last album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’, Kendrick Lamar is back – and back with a bang. The rapper’s latest offering ‘Damn’ has debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart making it the third consecutive #1 album by Lamar.

‘Damn’ sold over ‘600,000’ copies in it’s first week of release, making it the biggest opening of this year so far, debuting straight at #1. The album surpassed the debut sales of Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide), which was the biggest opener of 2017 until now.

The album’s lead single is called ‘Humble’, which was released by the Grammy award winning rapper, on 30th March, 2017. The single itself opened to impressive numbers while making it’s debut at the Billboard Hot 100 charts at the #2 spot.

Apart from it’s enormous numbers on the charts, ‘Damn’ has also opened to widespread critical acclaim with some calling it ‘no less a musical masterpiece than his last album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’. The Telegraph gave Damn five out of five stars, stating that the album “is the work of a future all-time great in full command of his powers.”

Now, that’s saying something!
