India's most beloved on-screen 'mother', actress Reema Lagoo has died at age 59.

Veteran actress Reema Lagoo is no more. The 59 year old veteran actress took her last breath on 18 May at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.

Reema was admitted to the hospital the night before after she complained of chest pain. The actress passed away at 3:15 AM due to a cardiac arrest.

Regarded as one of the most celebrated 'on-screen' mothers to several stars ranging from Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan to Govinda, the veteran actress was considered the pride of Marathi cinema and one of the most familiar faces of mainstream Bollywood family dramas.

She portrayed several memorable characters in a number of Bollywood blockbusters like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Vaastav, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Hum Saath-Saath Hain - to name a few.


Lagoo made her big-screen debut with the 1981 Shyam Benegal directed Hindi film, 'Kalyug' which starred Rekha, Shashi Kapoor and Raj Babbar in the lead. The actress was critically lauded for her power-packed performances in movies like Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Vaastav and more.

The actress was also known for playing the iconic lead role of Kokila in the 1994 DD National classic 'Shrimaan Shrimati' co-starring Jatin Kanakia, Rakesh Bedi and Archana Puran Singh.



Her sudden death due to a heart-attack comes as a shock to her fans and family as she was said to be in a healthy state with no previous medical issues.
