Not much has been revealed about the cause of Kapoor's death except for the fact that the actor was admitted to Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital, where he breathed his last.

Born into one of the first family dynasties of Bollywood, Shashi Kapoor was the son of legendary screen-icon Prithiviraj Kapoor and the younger brother of Raj and Shammi Kapoor.

Kapoor started his movie career as a child actor in the 1940's, establishing himself as one of the most sought-after lead stars by the 1960's.

One of his most memorable works include - Deewar, Kaala Parthar, Kabhi Kabhie, Shaan, Silsila, Roti Kapda Aur Makan, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Krodhi - to name a few.

In a career spanning nearly 5 decades, Shashi Kapoor acted in a vast variety of roles and recieved the 2010 Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his work. The next year, he was also honored with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India for his contributions to Indian cinema.

Considered one of the greatest screen icons of his time - Kapoor's passing would mark a sad day for the movie industry. Thoughts go out to his family, friends and fans.

Rest in peace.
