Despite protests and threats from Karni Sena, 'Padmaavat' opens to great numbers at Box Office

Amidst violent protests vandalism taking place across nation, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's highly anticipated historic drama, 'Padmaavat' was released on over 4,500 screens across the country.

Despite the fear and security concern that loomed over the screening, moviegoers seemed to have flocked in abundance to the Deepika Padukone starrer on its opening weekend, giving it a great start.

The part-historic part-fictional magnum opus raked in over 19 crores at the box office on it's opening day.

Now, this being an extensive weekend, there are still two generic holidays to go and the war-epic is expected to come out as the biggest opener of the year so far.

Not only that, the movie has also raked-in more at the box office than Deepika-Ranveer's previous two ventures with SLB - 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Raam Leela' - giving the pair their best opening together till date!

This is quite a victory for a movie that has been through so much with it's release.

And as violent outbreaks from the likes of Karni Sena continue to be held across states, it seems to have no effect on the people who wish to witness saga on the big-screen.

Congratulations to team 'Padmaavat.'
