“I am a sexual assault survivor”: Lady Gaga Gives Emotional Response In Kavanaugh-Ford Case

As the world seems to have gotten into a heated debate over the Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford case, several voices of support as well as dissent have come out from Hollywood.

Lady Gaga, who’s out and about, ahead of her upcoming flick, A Star Is Born’s worldwide premiere, has also had something powerful to say on the issue that has garnered her immense applause across platforms.

The singer and actress appeared on Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert and made use of the opportunity to express what she feels about the constant questioning of Dr Ford’s integrity based on the number of years she has taken to finally open up about her alleged sexual abuse.

Reflecting back and taking example from her own sexual assault, Gaga in a very heartfelt and emotional analogy, poured her heart out to explain what it takes for a sexual abuse victim to speak out and share their ordeal with others.

Calling the response to the case, “one of the most upsetting things” she’s ever witnessed, here is what the Grammy winning performer said:

“I am a sexual assault survivor. Trump the other day was speaking at a rally, and he said, ‘She has no memory of how she got to the party. Should we trust that she remembers the assault?’ And the answer is ‘yes’ … And I also know this woman is smart because she’s a psychologist – she’s no dummy.”

Gaga continues with her explanation:

“If someone is assaulted or experiences trauma, there’s science and scientific proof – it’s biology – that people change. The brain changes. What it does is it takes the trauma and it puts it in a box and it files it away and shuts it so that we can survive the pain. And it also does a lot of other things. It can cause body pain. It can cause baseline elevations in anxiety. It can cause complete avoidance of not wanting to even remember or think about what happened to you.”

And then she explains how Dr Ford had to let open her own box of nightmare when the point came:

“But what I believe that have seen is that when this woman saw that Judge Kavanaugh was going to be possibly put in the highest position of power in the judicial system of this country, she was triggered, and that box opened. And when that box opened, she was brave enough to share it with the world to protect this country.”

Needless to say, Gaga won an instant applause and left Colbert literally speechless after her passionate plea – explaining her own heart and soul as a former sexual assault victim and now a survivor.

Whatever turns out of the Kavanaugh-Ford case, we just hope people realize that when so many survivors are finally coming out to speak about their ordeals as former sexual assault victims, we at least, give them a patient ear – without questioning their integrity based on the ‘time’ they have taken to open up.

That’s the least bit everyone can do.
