Nicki Minaj Sued by Tracy Chapman for “Stealing” Her Song, ‘Baby Can I Hold You’

Nicki Minaj is being accused of stealing from Tracy Chapman’s 1988-released iconic hit – ‘Baby Can I Hold You.’

Chapman, who’s celebrated for her mega-hits like ‘Fast Car’ and ‘For My Lover’, has filed a suit against the ‘Anaconda’ rapper for ‘sampling’ her song without her permission.

According to Chapman, Nicki and her team had been approaching her since June 2018 to license ‘Baby Can I Hold You’ for a song which was set to appear on Minaj’s recently released studio album, ‘Queen.’

Although all requests by Nicki’s rep were rejected by Traci, much to the singer’s surprise, her song was still sampled on a track that did not actually make the cut of the rapper’s latest studio effort.

Nevertheless, the track entitled, ‘Sorry’ was created and made it’s way online and was also played on “The Breakfast Club” with Charlamagne Tha God, simultaneous to which, Nicki Tweeted, ‘Sis said no’ – perhaps in reference to Tracy’s denial of the song’s usage.

Tracy is now suing Minaj for damages and also to prohibit her from releasing the track again.
