Amidst her prolonged battle with several mental health issues, including depression – Sinead O’Connor confirmed her fans that she has now chosen to convert to Islam
The Irish singer, who’s mostly remembered for her heartbreaking ballad – ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, has changed her religion and has also got herself ‘renamed’, accordingly.
The 51 year old performer will now prefer to be regarded as – Shuhada’ Davitt, she announced in a new Tweet.
“This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim,” O’Connor confirmed. “This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada’”

She has even changed her Twitter name accordingly and has updated her Display picture to a text that reads:
“Wear a hijab. Just do it” (with a Nike ‘right’ symbol beneath it)
Her ‘conversion’ has also been met positively by a number of her Muslim supporters, and the singer took the time to respond to them with gratitude.

Thank you so much to all my Muslim brothers and sisters who have been so kind as to welcome me to Ummah today on this page. You can’t begin to imagine how much your tenderness means to me ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It was earlier last year, O’Connor had caused much worry to her fans and industry peers as she uploaded a video of herself struggling from severe mental health issues and an emotional breakdown.
Soon after her video reached millions, Annie Lennox had responded and offered help to the troubled star.
After wearing her very first hijaab, gifted to her by a friend, Sinead said:
“Not gonna post a photo because is intensely personal. And I’m an ugly old hag. But I’m a very, very, very happy old hag.”
If this assists with her mental health battle, and helps her come back to prosperity, we are very much with you Sinead.
