R. Kelly’s Ex-Wife Opens Up About Abuse and Attempting Suicide

R. Kelly has had a pretty long line of accusers to his name, who have come forth to talk about their past experiences with the disgraced R&B singer/songwriter.

The latest to join the line is his former wife, Andrea Kelly – who has chosen to side with the other accusers on ground of the abuse she herself faced at the hands of the singer.

On her recent appearance on The View, here is what Andrea had to say on her experience:

“You cannot not speak when someone’s life and what they’ve been through is parallel to yours. I wanted to bring validity to these women’s stories.”

Andrea was married to R. Kelly from 1996 to 2009.

Through all these years, Kelly has faced accusations of various sexual misconducts, which include being accused of holding women hostages and possessing child pornography.

Detailing the abuse she faced during her marriage with Kelly, Andrea recalled the incidents of physical assaults that nearly killed her.

“His weight was on my body, but he didn’t realize his forearm was on my neck. So as he’s pressing down, my breathing is getting labored and the only reason why I think I made it out because I said to him, ‘Robert you’re gonna kill me, I can’t breathe, you have to get your arm off of my neck’ and I just remember sitting in the back of the Hummer and it got blue and I just thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to die in the back of this Hummer and he’s going to drive off with my body in the back seat and nobody’s gonna know.’”

Andrea later spoke about how the increasing instances of such arguments and assault – which often happened in front of their 3 kids, she finally decided to leave the singer – also to set an example for her growing daughter.

“…if you stay and she ends up with a man like him and you tell her to leave she’s going to say, ‘Why would I? You stayed with my dad all those years.’”

Andrea also revealed how she once contemplated suicide, by going to her balcony and deciding to jump, only to be saved by the voices of her kids in her head.
