Rihanna Declined Super Bowl Show in Support of Colin Kaepernick

Rihanna turned down an offer to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show for next year, to extend her support to Colin Kaepernick, according to reports.

According to US Weekly, the ‘Work’ hit-maker declined to perform at next year’s Super Bowl show as a form of protest for the way the league has treated Kaepernick.

“The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” the insider said. “They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”

Kaepernick was the first NFL player to kneel during the national anthem at NFL games, to protest against social injustices, mainly revolving around racial discrimination and police killings. The 30 year old has not played a game since 2016, and also filed a grievance against them in 2017.

Sources also state that singer-songwriter, Pink too turned down the offer to perform at the show – but it isn’t clear if it her reasons were same as Rihanna.
