Aishwarya Rai's gorgeous looks from Cannes over the years

Aishwarya Rai is no stranger to Cannes. The actress has been dazzling at the red-carpet of the annual celebration for over 15 years.

From her debut at the film festival back in 2002 to her most recent appearance this year, the glamorous beauty has annually walked the red-carpet, as we witnessed her fashion sense evolve with each of her appearances.

Let us take a look back at some of her stunning and not-so-stunning appearances from the event starting from the very beginning.

Here are Aishwarya's varying looks from Cannes over 15+ years:

The former Miss World first graced the red carpet of the annual event in the year 2002 wearing a gold-colored sari designed by Neeta Lulla. Paired with lavish gold-jewelry the look became too much for the eyes and didn't go down well with most fashion critics.

Rai made another appearance the following year as an official Jury member, wearing another Neeta Lulla creation - which again failed to do justice to her breathtaking beauty.

Ash attempted to glam-it-up this time in this glittery gown designed by Lulla. The look was a moderate success per the fashion police, but was ruined when she carried the stole with it.

Her first close-to-perfection look finally came in 2005 with this floral Armani gown highlighting her natural beauty in the most effortless way.

This Elie Saab gown from her appearance in the year 2006 was regal and exquisite, paired with the serpentine neck piece - her look was worth every praise.

This was the first year Ash walked the Cannes red-carpet with her husband Abhishekh Bachchan, dressed in a strapless Giorgio Armani - she looked suave and elegant.

Ash's look from 2008 failed to deliver yet again - the messy black gown did not seem to go anywhere. However, she turned the critics opinions around with another look from the same year, with the golden shimmery Giorgio Armani gown (see the second picture below).

Wearing a ruffled gown designed by Roberto Cavalli, Ash was an ethereal vision in this look. She stunned yet again in her second appearance the same year in an Elie Saab gown.

Out of all the appearances Ash made this year, the most notable was her Elie Saab designed gown which made her look like the true regal beauty that she is.

Ash received mixed responses for her appearance this year - as the Armaani and Elie Saab gowns failed to recreate the magic of previous years.

Making her first appearance after pregnancy, Aishwarya looked elegant in this simplistic Elie Saab gown.

Ash looked gorgeous in the black and grey Elie Saab gown, but her blue Gucci floor length piece failed to delivery. Her third look from the evening featured a traditional red-carpet dress designed by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, which was a 'safe-attempt' and looked graceful.

She came back in full-force this year in this Roberto Cavalli designed gorgeous piece as she swayed on the red-carpet flaunting her back-in-shape body.

Ash made a number of appearances at Cannes in 2015, and made a unique fashion-statement with each of her looks. Ranging from Elie Saab, Oscar Da La Renta, Sabyasachi and Ralph & Russo - Ash was glowing in each of her looks.

Her appearance at the 2016 Cannes garnered a lot buzz for her out-of-the-box purple lipstick paired with a traditional red-carpet gown.

Aishwarya's look from this year may very well by her best yet, as she looked nothing short of princess in this big-flared hoop-gown.
