Last week we had talked about a viral video, which showed an unidentified woman screaming at and hitting a child while teaching her maths.

The video, originally shared by cricketer Virat Kohli, sparked such outrage and debate that it was covered by all mainstream news outlets with several famous celebrities and cricketers reacting on it.

Several people called the method of teaching ruthless and violent, stating that it may leave the child scarred for the rest of her life.

While, we do admit that the clip was too small to judge anything - it was sure disturbing to watch something like that being recorded and circulated.

After much ado, across nation for well-over a week - the little girl's family has finally come out to clarify themselves and to stand in support of the mother, who was being the camera, attempting to her teach her daughter maths.

The child's name is Haya, and she happens to be the niece of Bollywood singer, Toshi.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the singer said, "Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan don’t know about us. Hamare bachche ke bare mein humein pata hai naah ki hamara bacha kaisa hai! Uska nature hai waisa... Agle hi pal woh khelne chali jaati hai. Agar aap usko chod do toh woh kahengi main mazzak kar rahi thi. Uske nature ki wajah se chod denge toh woh padai bhi nahi kar paayengi."

The reason he said the video was being recorded by the mother was because she wanted to show the rest of the family - how "stubborn" she had become.

Terming it 'normal' tantrum of a 3 year old, Toshi told HT that if they don't push or scold her she would not concentrate on her studies, further stating that crying is just an excuse for her to be allowed to play instead.

"The homework she gets in nursery, of learning numbers, she’ll never be able to learn. Woh jo rona hota hain, woh us moment ke liye tha taaki uski maa use padaaye na aur khelne de. Chota bachcha hai 2.5-3 saal ka. It’s not a big issue. Har ghar mein bachon ki alag zidd hoti hai, alag-alag tareeke ke bachche hote hain. [Ye] bachchi bahut zyada ziddi hai [lekin] humari laadli hai,” he said.

Defending the tough manner of teaching of Haya's mother, Toshi told HT:

"Ek maa ki mamta hai, judgment nahi kar sakte hain. Jisne usko 9 months kokh mein rakha hai. Ab agar bachche zidd karenge toh unko padana likhana chod dein kya? Bachon ko paalna asaan nahi hota. I’m married and have a son. I know how difficult it is to raise a child. Parents have to do double duty by managing both — the children and the household at the same time," he said.

Do you agree with Toshi on the above point?
