Padmavati protester offers "5 crores for Deepika Padukone's head"

The towering controversies revolving around the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati' are showing no signs of dying down anytime soon.

After a Karni Sena representative threatened to chop off Deepika Padukone's nose, alleging her of hurting the sentiments of the Rajput community, a Thakur leader from Meerut has created controversy with a similar violant remark.

"Anyone who brings the head of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone will be rewarded with Rs 5 crore," president of Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Yuva Mahasabha, Abhishek Som said. "Rani Ma Padmavati had sacrificed her life with 12,000 other women in mass immolation (Jauhar), and Bhansali has raised a question on her courage by showing her in bad light in his film. This is unacceptable. Either both of them should leave the country or get ready to be beheaded."

As theater owners fear screening Bhansali's highly anticipated magnum opus, due to a possible law and order situation - statements like these are only adding further fuel to the fire.

Abhishek Som, however, is not afraid of being prosecuted for his violence-inciting remark. "I am not afraid of police action and I am ready to sacrifice my life for this cause."

Bhansali's historical drama has been engulfed in, what can be termed - 'the biggest controversy involving a movie-release' in recent times, due to allegations of a demeaning portrayal of Rajput queen Padmavati and thereby hurting the sentiments of some Hindu groups.

Makes you wonder if the movie would even see the light of the day.
