Singer Papon kisses a minor girl in shocking video. She has now responded to the controversy

So many people are "out of touch" when it comes to the subject of child abuse and inappropriate conduct with a minor - and it has all become apparent seeing the comments of people after Papon's viral video of him kissing a minor female contestant from a singing show.

In a controversy-stirring Facebook live video, the award winning singer was seen kissing a minor girl on her lips (or atleast close to her lips) during a holi celebration. The girl is one of the many young contestants who the 41 year old Assamese singer is mentoring on the show.

Although whether or not the conduct is to be categorized as 'molestation' can be left for the law officials to decide, as the matter has already gone to the police with an official complaint filed against the singer, netizens who have chosen to the defend the star-singer, by stating that the girl was "smiling" and "turned her head" for the act, is appalling to the say the least.

Apparently not everyone in India understands the concept of a minor girl/boy not being in a position to consent for a physical or a sexual encounter.

And no, we're not already saying that the allegations of molestation appear to be clear from the video - because they don't (although it isn't rocket science to understand that you should limit yourself to being physically affectionate towards other people's kids to that extent) - but the arguments people are putting out to defend their favorite singer are disgusting to say the least.

Papon, realizes the seriousness of the havoc he's caused and has thus stepped down from his role as a mentor and judge on the show.

"I might have done it spontaneously but in today's environment, to touch a girl child, however innocent your thoughts are, is not advisable. I am sorry for that," he says.

Papon also insists that it was only a spontaneous expression of affection and is being misrepresented by the media... and the people.

The girl too has come to defend her mentor stating that the kiss was no different than the form of expression her own parents choose for her.

Here is what she had to say:

“During the Holi episode, all parents and us, kids, had gone up to Papon sir...we were playing and having some fun when we went live on Facebook. So everyone saw he didn’t do anything to me... he kissed me like he would kiss his own child. My mother and my father also kiss me lovingly so there is nothing wrong about it. Papon sir didn’t do anything with the wrong intention."

A police complaint has been filed against Papon under the POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) act.
