Rani Mukerji's 'Hichki' is a hit with viewers: Mints 15.36 crores over the weekend

Rani Mukerji hasn't just been hailed as the 'Rani' of Bollywood for her acting chops alone. The 'Bunty Aur Bubli' superstar has consistently managed to keep the box-office on fire, even when she worked on movies that didn't necessarily boasted of a 'mainstream' subject.

The multiple award winning actress, returned to the big-screen this past week with her much-talked about, intriguing comedy-drama, 'Hichki' - and just as one would expect from the star, she yet again managed to rake-in great numbers at the ticket counter.

But it was also a win for the content, as it was for the actress - as trade analyst Taran Adarsh points out.

Her promising take on the subject of a teacher, suffering from Tourette Syndrome, striving to establish herself in a school full of mischievous kids is striking a firm chord with viewers.

In the first weekend of its release, the movie was managed to rake-in nearly 15.36 crores at the box-office

In an industry mostly dominated by male-leads, where majority of the female stars only get to play their "love-interests", Rani has persistently managed to ring a bell with audiences and also at the cash registers, with her content-driven movies - serving as the solo lead protagonist on many of them. Hichki, too falls in the same category.

The Siddharth P. Malhotra directorial is estimated to have a promising week ahead, based on positive word of mouth and its universally appealing, light-hearted subject.
