'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' surpasses Akshay Kumar's 'Padman' to become 2nd highest grosser of 2018

It is not often for a small-budget movie boasting of lesser-familiar faces to surpass an overtly promoted, big-budger, big-banner flick with an A-list star-cast.

But that is precisely what Luv Ranjan's comedy-romance 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' has been able to accomplish at the box office.

Despite a promotion not even half as aggressive as some other big-banner flicks, positive word-of-mouth helped this light-hearted dramedy score well with the viewers - turning it into the second highest grosser of 2018 so far.

Currently on the third week of its release, the movie has grossed over 82.1 crores at the box office, surpassing the collection of Akshay Kumar's much-talked about biographical drama, 'Padman.'

Trade expert, Taran Adarsh tweeted and called the movie a 'superhit' with an overall collection putting it only behind, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's box-office smasher - 'Padmaavat.'

The Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Nijar starrer has certainly hit the right chords with viewers, many of whom have flocked to see this entertainer more than once!
