Real Life Hero: Akshay Kumar helps build public toilets worth Rs 10 Lakhs at Juhu Beach

For the past couple of the years, the kind of movies Akshay Kumar has been associated with - have had some form of an association with socially relevant subjects - be it the issue of public defecation, projected in 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' or female menstruation and hygiene, dealt with in his most recent flick - 'Padman.'

The actor, has time and again taken up the specific causes as and when he's appeared in movies dealing with the same. Although a number of people have brushed it aside as a form of promotional tactic for his movies, Akshay continues to prove them wrong with his continuous contribution to various social causes.

Almost a year after the release of 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha', Akshay has taken up the task to build public toilets in the premises of Mumbai's Juhu beach - making monetary contribution of Rs 10 lakhs.

In order to help build-up the toilets, Akshay teamed up with Shiv Sena's Aaditya Thackeray - providing a measure to tackle the problem of open defecation in the beach premises, and also contributing to the overall cleanliness of the place.

The amenity will be of big relief to those who complained about the dearth of public toilets, which left them with no choice but to defecate in the open.

Speaking on the newly constructed restrooms, Prashant Gaikwad, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, was quoted telling Mumbai Mirror:

“The toilets have bio-digester so there will be no stink. The toilets will bring a lot of relief to not just the local slum dwellers, but also to visitors.”

Way to go Akshay.

Hope more people take up the cause to make the place completely open-defecation-free.
