It was a memorable day for Indian football on Monday night at the Mumbai football arena, as India beat Kenya by 3-0 in their second match of the Intercontinental cup.

The day became even more significant as it was Indian star striker and captain Sunil Chhetri's 100th match, and he made the day more special by scoring a fantastic brace in the tough rainy conditions.

Sunil scored his first goal from the penalty spot and the second one was a delicious chip over the Kenyan keeper that wrapped things up for India. This was Sunil's 61st International Goal that took him to the third spot in the Top active International Goal scorers. Sunil is now only Behind Lionel Messi (2nd) and Cristiano Ronaldo (1st).

Earlier in the weekend, the passionate footballer earlier, urged Indian fans to come to the stadium and cheer for the team through a heartwarming video message that soon caught the attention of vast array of sportspersons from other fields. It wasn't long before the same became viral on social media. Many big names came in support of Sunil Chhetri, including the likes of - Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Shikhar Dhawan - to name a few.

The discrimination most other sports face in India - in comparison to cricket has been the subject of discussion for longer than most of us remember. While there are people who willing to pay in black to witness the 'moderately significant' matches of cricket, not even a fraction of that kind of support is shown the sportspersons from other fields.

Sunil's sincere efforts and requests to pull the crowd to the stadium paid off in a rather inspiring manner as the event witnessed a full house at the Mumbai Football Arena. The atmosphere in the stadium was electrifying as fans were jumping, singing chants and were holding big banners to show their support despite the unfavorable weather conditions. The Indian team, in return, didn't let them down as they put on quiet a show and made sure the fans went home singing and dancing with joy.

@virat.kohli is a good supporter too after being a good cricketer! Honestly guys, we need to support them they are very dedicated in their game and working hard, they just needs to our supports. They have a true perseverance in their game. We have to come up and support them as a Indian! #sunilchhetri #viratkohli #friendship #football #indianfootball
Captain Sunil Chhetri, was full of gratitude for the outpouring love he received across the stands, as he along with his team mates, thanked the fans by folding hands for their immense support.

After a memorable night at Mumbai Sunil took to twitter and put up an emotional message for fans:

"We promise you that if that's the kind of support we get every time we play for the country, we will give our lives on the pitch. India, this night was special because we were in this together. Those in the stands shouting, and the ones at home cheering - Thank you"

Team India will next play against New Zealand on June 7 and all the tickets are rumored to be already sold out!

The support and zeal should not end here, let us continue to show our love to #TeamIndia.

What say you?
