Ajay Devgan to play 'Chanakya' on upcoming flick based on the iconic philosopher's life

Ajay Devgan is one actor who has proven his metal and talent time and again.

The actor seamlessly manages to transition from his work on slapstick comedies to his challenging roles in movies like 'Gangajal', 'Omkara' and 'Drishyam' - to name a few.h

After delivering a varying degree of distinct characters, the actor will now be seen portraying the role of the iconic historic figure - 'Chanakya' in an upcoming period drama.

The movie is being helmed by Neeraj Pandey - who has previously created critically acclaimed pieces like - 'Baby', 'Special 26' and 'A Wednesday.'

Chanakya was a royal advisor during the rule of the legendary Maurya Empire and has been called the founding father of 'Arthashastra.'

In popular culture, Chanakya is still admired for her renowned intelligence, philosophies related to life and political science and his pivotal role in the establishment of one of the most powerful dynasties in India. 






Confirming the news and expressing his excitement over playing the role of a much admired historic figure, Ajay was quoted telling a daily:

“I am truly looking forward to playing Chanakya. I’ve followed Neeraj Pandey’s work closely and I know Neeraj will tell this story with the clarity and passion with which it needs to be told.”

He also made the announcment on his Twitter handle:



Neeraj also expressed his zeal and passion behind the subject and how he hopes audiences will love it.




“I have been developing this film on Chanakya for some time now. It is an exciting work of passion for me, and I am sure audiences will love Ajay’s portrayal of the visionary genius.”

A quality movie based on the iconic figure hasn't been put out for the big-screen yet.

If this one manages to deliver and strike the right chords with history, it is going to be one hell of a movie to watch!
