Jennifer Hudson says Whitney Houston was the inspiration behind her latest role in 'Sandy Wexler'

Just a few days ago Jennifer Hudson delivered a headlining tribute to Whitney Houston and record-producer Clive Davis, at the Tribeca film festival. Hudson, on several occasions, has showed-up to talk about Houston's influence on her as an artist and on some places it shows in her vocals too.

During the promotion of her upcoming Netflix movie 'Sandy Wexler' in New York City, Jennifer talked about how the inspiration of the role and the character she is playing in the movie also came from Whitney Houston, who was the biggest pop star of the 80's and the 90's.

In 'Sandy Wesler', Jennifer stars opposite Adam Sandler and plays an aspiring singer back in the 90's who works her way through the industry with the help of her agent, played by Sandler.

In her interview with ABC, Jennifer was quoted as saying, “I remember Adam and Steven Brill, the director, saying it’s kind of like a comedic version of The Bodyguard, in a way. And you definitely feel the sentiment of Whitney throughout the film, even with the song ‘DJ,’ it kind of has more of a ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ or ‘My Name is Not Susan’ type of vibe to it. And even my style — Whitney was a huge reference for a lot of the looks for Courtney in the film.”

Jennifer also made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, to promote the movie and also sang a chilling rendition of one of her favorite church hymns. Wearing a beautiful black number, Jennifer was 'all-legs' and looked gorgeous.
