"Aretha Franklin Way": The Queen of soul gets honored with a street named after her in Detroit

Aretha Franklin couldn't hold back her emotions as a street named after the Queen Of Soul, was "inaugurated" in Detroit this past week.

The street in question is an existing portion of Madison Avenue - starting from the corner of Brush street and right outside the Detroit City Music Hall for Performing arts.

The 75 year old legendary songstress couldn't stop her tears from falling after being overwhelmed with the emotion of seeing the 'Aretha Franklin Way' sign-board unveiled at Detroit's busy corner, surrounded by her friends, the press and admirers.

Aretha also stepped on stage later on Thursday at the City Music Hall, showing her gratitude for immense honor, “Thank you again for this resplendent and magnificent honor of this street, Aretha’s Way. I want to see it every time I come down here, I’m going to dance down it!” she said.

Franklin is one of the most celebrated singers in American music history, regarded as one of the true greats of soul music. The impact of her illustrious 6 decade long career looms of the artists of even today's generation as her unforgettable classics are covered from aspiring vocalists from all age groups.
