The singer-songwriter blasted the annual ceremony with two uninhibited tweets and broke the internet with them.
"It's always exciting to see how utterly horrible the VMAs will be. They really delivered so far this year," he tweeted.
Levine was apparently upset with singer Julia Michael's performance being cut off in the middle of her performance while Lorde was allowed to awkwardly perform an improptu dance instead of singing her song.
"Julia Michaels gets cut off while she's singing and Lorde gets to NOT sing her whole song," Adam tweeted.

Lorde later clarified that she was down with the flue and it was so bad that it affected her performance. ""You can't tell in these pictures but i have the flu so bad i needed an IV," she revealed in a tweet.
Julie Michaels was performing her track 'Issues' when VMAs cut straight to commercials. Same happened during Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington's video tribute.
It's not the first time VMA's have found themselves in the middle of a controversy due to their 'lackluster' performances. Back in 2015, Pink had also lashed out at the awards for its 'uninspiring' and 'embarrassing' performances.
