Woody Allen urges not to start 'Witch-Hunt' in Hollywood after Harvey Weinstein allegations

Woody Allen shared his opinions on the recent allegations against Harvey Weinstein - which accused him of being a long-term sex offender, assaulting several actresses during the course of his career.

The 'Manhattan' director called it 'tragic' for the women to have gone through such an ordeal, and 'sad' for Harvey for having a "messed-up" life.

“The whole Harvey Weinstein thing is very sad for everybody involved,” Allen said in an interview with BBC. “Tragic for the poor women that were involved, sad for Harvey that his life is so messed up.”

The filmmaker also denied having any past knowledge about the existence of any such abuse, as none of his actors ever spoke about it to him. “No one ever came to me or told me horror stories with any real seriousness,” he said. “And they wouldn’t, because you are not interested in it. You are interested in making your movie.”

However, what intrigued internet peeps the most was his comment to not start a 'witch-hunt' in Hollywood post the allegations - as he warned against creating a 'Salem atmosphere' by keeping a suspicious eye on every male colleague.

"You also don’t want it to lead to a witch hunt atmosphere, a Salem atmosphere, where every guy in an office who winks at a woman is suddenly having to call a lawyer to defend himself. That’s not right either," Woody said.

As expected, the internet couldn't help but troll the filmmaker for the comment - given his past involving him being accused of sexually abusing his 7 year old daughter, back in 1993.

Woody's children Dylan and Ronan Farrow, have continously spoken against his alleged abusive past, while also condemning the film industry's indifference on the matter.

Given the frequency of such allegations in Hollywood, isn't a witch-hunt all the more necessary?
