Drake breaks Billboard record for Most Wins in a Single Ceremony.

The 2017 Billboard awards held in Los Angeles and aired live on ABC this Sunday, saw a host of star-studded performances and nominees ranging from Beyonce to Adele to The Chainsmokers. But the biggest winner of the night was Canadian rapper and musician Drake, who won a total of 13 trophies – an unprecedented feat at the BMA’s.
Drake tied with The Chainsmokers for receiving most nominations of the evening with a total of 22 nods – and went on to win 13 of them – setting the record for most Billboard awards won in a single ceremony.The previous record was held by Adele, who in 2012, surpassed a 19 year old record of the late Whitney Houston by winning 12 trophies in a single night. Houston’s iconic record was held in the year 1993, when she won a total of 11 trophies for the chart-topping success of The Bodyguard Soundtrack album.

Drake’s fourth studio album ‘Views’ was a massive success on the Billboard charts spending a total of 13 non-consecutive weeks at the top spot. It also became the first album ever to cross one-billion streams on Apple Music. The 30 year old rapper swept in most major categories of the evening which included Top artist, Top male artist and Top Billboard 200 album for ‘Views.’

“I just want to say hold tight Adele because when a new ting drops you will crawl your way back to get the record back,” Drake said while accepting his award.
