Fox News host calls 10 year old boy with Autism a ‘Snowflake’

At a recent event for military families, vice president Mike Pence accidently bopped a ten year old kid on his nose, while giving a speech. The young boy then attempted to seek an apology from Pence as shown in a video that has gone viral since being posted on 10 May by Huffpost.

The 10 year old boy, Michael, who is on the autism spectrum can be seen seeking the attention of Pence for an apology after being bopped by him.

This incident did not go down well with Fox News’ hosts Bill Hemmer and Tammy Bruce, as they criticized and mocked the young boy on Friday’s airing of  Tucker Carlson Tonight on the network.

What sounded like an over-the-top verbiage for a 10 year old kid with autism, Bill Hemmer began, “Kids these days, they’re telling the parents what to do, they’re telling the teachers what to do, and I guess now they’re telling the vice president what to do.”

Tammy Bruce continued with the rant, “I guess we’re giving birth to snowflakes now because that looked like that kid needed a safe space in that room.”

“The 8-year-old pretty much stalked the vice president afterwards. He wasn’t even — the headlines said he was ‘hit, he was struck, he was smashed, he was bumped.’ The fabric on his sleeve touched his nose maybe. He stalks the vice president, says, ‘You owe me an apology’… This is crazy. Now look, he’s seen it either on television, maybe he’s seen it at home perhaps, but he felt aggrieved,” Bruce said.

Later on CNN, the boy’s mother, Dr. Ingrid Herrera-Yee, told that her son has autism and has only been verbal for the last five years.

The young boy’s mother explained the host, “Michael is 10 years old. He is on the autism spectrum. He’s a military child. And he loves the White House.” She continued with saying that the incident was not meant to be negative and it was “Just him learning social interaction with someone else. What is appropriate and what isn’t.”

She also added the vice president was “wonderful” while dealing with boy, but expressed her shock and disappointment for the choice of words used by Fox’s hosts. “Please don’t use kids. Whether they’re typically developing kids — it doesn’t matter that he’s autistic or a military kid. Forget all that. He’s a kid. And you don’t use children as examples on national television like that,” she said.
