Gabourey who’s shooting in Chicago for her show ‘Empire’, talked about her encounter in Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter. “I knew what she was doing. She had decided after a single look at me that I wasn’t there to spend any money. Even though I was carrying a Chanel bag, she decided I wasn’t a Chanel customer and so, not worth her time and energy,” Gabourey wrote.

What the saleswoman did not realize was that Gabourey wasn’t a regular customer, but an Academy Award nominated actress who’s starred in a number of successful Television projects and earns enough to buy whatever she wants to from the store.

The 34 year old did eventually purchase two eyeglasses and two pairs of sandals for her ‘Empire’ co-star Taraji P. Henson.

She further wrote in her letter, “Unfortunately, I’m used to people giving me bad service. Honestly, if I walked out of every store where someone was rude to me, I’d never have anything nice.”

In the wake of the incident and Gabourey’s revelations, the fashion house, issued a formal apology to the ‘Precious’ star.

“We are sorry that she felt unwelcome and offended,” read a statement from Chanel.

“We took her words very seriously and immediately investigated to understand what happened. Knowing that this is absolutely not in line with the high standards that Chanel wishes to provide to our customers,” said the luxury fashion brand.

“We do hope that in the future Ms. Sidibe will choose to come back to a Chanel boutique and experience the real Chanel customer experience,” the statement concluded.

Do you think the apology by Chanel is enough or could they do more?
