Jamie Foxx reveals how Oprah, Quincy Jones, Sidney Poitier saved his life from alcohol

Academy award winning actor Jamie Foxx was on the verge of destroying his career back in 2005 post the shooting of ‘Ray.’

The actor revealed details about his past alcohol habits in a recent interview with radio host Howard Stern. “You know me, I was going hard,” Foxx told the radio show host. “I’m not knowing I’m fu***ng up. I’m drinking, I’m doing every fu***ng thing you can possibly imagine,” he said.

As the actor’s alcohol habits started going out of hand, Jamie revealed that one day he got an unexpected call from Oprah telling him that he was blowing it.

“All of this gallivanting,” Oprah told him, “that’s not what you want to do. I want to take you somewhere. Make you understand the significance of what you’re doing.“

Jamie was then invited to Quincy Jones’ house, where a celebration of actor Sidney Poitier’s birthday was taking place which included several veteran African-American actors. “We go in the house and there’s all these old actors, black actors from the ’60s and ’70s, who look like they just want to say ‘Good luck, don’t blow it,” Jamie recalled.

It was at that point Foxx told Stern that he realized his nomination for ‘Ray’ was way bigger than he thought it was.

Oprah, Quincy Jones and Sidney Poitier helped him understand that he was doing good and shouldn’t blow it up like that.

The actor recalls how the intervention influenced his life. “To this day, it’s the most significant time in my life where it was, like, a chance to grow up,” he said
