‘Animal House’ actor Stephen Furst, dies at 62

Stephen Furst, actor who played Flounder in ‘Animal House,’ has passed away due to complications related to diabetes.

Furst died at his home in Ventura County, California on Friday morning, surrounding by his loved ones. His sons, Nathan and Griff, said in a statement, “He was a beloved husband, father and kind friend whose memory will always be a blessing.”

Furst had a long with with diabetes, which also turned him into a spokesperson for the American Diabetes Association.

Born on May 8, 1955 in Norfolk, Virginia, Furst was primarily known and came into limelight with his appearance as Flounder in National Lampoon’s Animal House, which came out in 1978. He was regularly seen in the science fiction television series Babylon 5 and the medical black comedy, St. Elsewhere.

Furst died a month after his 62nd birthday, succumbing to his ailment. He was 62.
