Daniel Day-Lewis is retiring – as confirmed by the legendary actor’s representative on Tuesday.
The three time Academy award winning actor is stepping back from his role as announced by his rep, Leslee Dart, who stated that Lewis “will no longer be working as an actor.”
Dart further said in the statement, “He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.”
Neither Lewis nor his representative confirmed the reason for the celebrated actor’s sudden retirement, but it could very well be his way to give himself the ‘antidote’, as he once called it, to his profession and the showbiz.

Lewis is the only actor in history to win 3 ‘Best Actor’ Oscars for his widely acclaimed performances in “Lincoln”, ‘There Will Be Blood’, and “My Left Foot.”
The critically acclaimed actor is recognized for his methodical acting and his ability to get inside the very skin of his characters, including researching at-length to know more about them.
Back in the early 1990’s, Day-Lewis went on a 5 year hiatus from acting and reportedly started working as a Cobbler in Italy, until Martin Scorsese persuaded him to return to acting again, with a role in ‘Gangs of New York’ – for which Lewis earned another Oscar nomination.
