There can’t be a singing reality show without someone, somewhere covering a Whitney Houston classic. The diva’s influence on aspiring singers is so immense that there hasn’t been a single season on most singing competitions, without at least one contestant taking-on a Houston classic.
The latest in line is Flint, Michigan native, Johnny Manuel – who chose to audition on America’s Got Talent with a rousing rendition of Houston’s 1992 chart-topper – “I Have Nothing” and tore the stage up with it.
While not everyone can do justice to the vocally challenging tunes of the diva, Manuel chose to sing one of her most difficult and widely recognized songs – which the late legend immortalized with her trademark delivery.
Manuel’s pitch perfect performance, only got better when he approached the climax and tackled every note of it like a pro – leading to a standing ovation from everyone in the room.
