It was a moment to remember and pay respect to their idol Whitney Houston on what would have been her 54th birthday, but when Monica and Brandy took to Instagram – things started getting shady…and petty.

Although Monica simply left a birthday wish on her Instagram while praising the late legend – Brandy’s post about her being the ‘torch-bearer’ of Whitney’s legacy, didn’t quite go down well with her and Monica’s fans, and things suddenly turned wild.

“You live on in me… I can feel your Spirit inside of me and all around me,” Brandy wrote, “I love you forever… thank you for trusting me with the torch!!! I remember every moment with you and I and I will cherish these miraculous moments forever and ever! I love you…. 8/9-2/11 #WhitneyHouston.”

For some reasons, Monica fans detected shade on Brandy’s post and called her out for being petty for her choice of words.

“You should take a chapter from @monicabrown handbook on how to be classy and un bothered,” one comment read on her Instagram post. “Sis, humble yourself bc the torch you speak of is nonexistent.”

Brandy took no time in hitting back at the haters as she called them out for coming at her, and in doing so, ended up shading Monica some more. “You, Your faves and your followers can sit down somewhere,” she responded.

On another post, Brandy directly addressed Monica calling her fans ‘hating-ass-pigeons’ – “Monica needs to really check her evil ass fans,” she wrote. “It’s so much stuff I can post about the hateful things they say to me… but I will never have time for that. Always thinking something is about her. It’s not!!!!…Me and Whitney have nothing to do with anyone but the two of us…we made history and I cared more about being with her than I did about anything else.”

“Come get your hating ass pigeons and put them in their place the way I did for you when the starz was out of place,” Brandy continued. “They’re low key Brandy fans anyway… always lurking and always creating new pages talking to Me. I’m not to be F–ked with today!”
