Cardi B’s ‘Bodak Yellow’ finally hits number 1 on Billboard. First female solo rap in 19 years to do so

Cardi B’s smash-hit ‘Bodak Yellow’ has finally reached the top spot at the Billboard Hot 100.

Dethroning, Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do”, the song has officially hit the #1 spot on this week’s Billboard Chart release.

The feat, is historic in more ways than you may know!

Cardi B is the first female rapper in almost 19 years to have a solo record top the Billboard Hot 100, since’ Lauryn Hill held the #1 spot back in 1998, with her single, “Doo Wop (That Thing).”

Not just that, this also makes Cardi the fifth only female rapper to ever hold the top spot on the main charts.

According to Billboard, after Lauryn Hill’s 1998 smash-hit, Lil’ Kim held the top spot for five weeks along with Christina Aguilera, Mya and P!nk on “Lady Marmalade” back in 2001, Shawnna topped it in 2003 as a featured artist on Ludacris’ “Stand Up” and Iggy Azalea‘s infectious “Fancy” topped the Hot 100 in 2014. The track featured Charli XCX and held the top spot for seven weeks.
