Country music ‘Gentle Giant’ Don Williams has died at age 78

Country singer and songwriter Don Williams is no more.

The bass-baritone, whose distinguished vocals earned him the title, ‘Gentle Giant’ in the world of Country music, passed away after a short period of illness – as confirmed by his representative.

Don began his solo career in 1971 and produced a string of chart-toppers in the genre with over 17 singles peaking at #1 on the Country music charts. Renowned for hits like “You’re My Best Friend” and “Tulsa Time,” Don’s biggest hit came in the year 1981 — when “I Believe in You” reached the top of the country charts, becoming his 11th #1 single.

Marking his return in the world of music back in 2010, Williams was inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame for outstanding contribution to the genre.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, and his 2 sons.
