As was expected, Donald Trump’s unabashed choice of words and criticism of NFL players staying seated during the national anthem, has insigated several people to show their stance on the issue.
The latest in-line is the legendary Stevie Wonder – who during his appearance at the 2017 Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, went down on his knees.
“Tonight I’m taking a knee for America,” he said, as he was assisted by his son to lower him down on the stage. “But not just one knee, both knees. Both knees in prayer for our planet, our future, our leaders of the world and our globe.”
Stevie was on stage with his son Kwame Morris at the event on Saturday, when he chose to show his solidarity with players like Colin Kaepernick who chose to protest against racial discrimination, by not standing during the national anthem.
As reported before, at a rally in Alabama, Trump strongly criticized NFL players for staying seated during the anthem at the start of the games, calling them ‘sons of bitches’ and urging people to leave the stadium every time they witness a protest of that nature.
Although, Stevie did not directly say anything about Trump or his recent dialogue, it can be assumed the action is a response to Trump’s words on the issue.
