Coldplay sings ‘Free Falling’ in heartfelt tribute to Tom Petty

Coldplay paid homage to the recently deceased Tom Petty with a heartfelt performance of one of his most famous classics, ‘Free Fallin’

During the band’s Monday concert in Portland, Oregon, they were joined on stage by R.E.M guitarist Peter Buck who paid tribute to the ailing rock legend as he took his final breaths in the hospital.

Petty was prounounced dead later on Tuesday, after being removed from life support – as confirmed by the musician’s rep, Tony Dimitriades.

“On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty,” Dimitriades said in his statement. “He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.”

The beloved singer-songwriter, was admitted to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital on Sunday, where he was put in life support – which reportedly, later had to be removed after his brain stopped functioning.

He was 66.
