Sam Smith is one of the few male artists in the mainstream who have openly identified themselves as gay men.

Smith, who has achieved remarkable success and critical acclaim with his past hits, also happens to often reflect his love for men in the music he makes.

The Grammy award winning singer-songwriter recently sat down for an interview with The Sunday Times and discussed his sexuality at great lengths and depth, speaking on the gender he more-so associates himself with and the love for drag.

When questioned if he identifies as a ‘Cisgendered male’, Smith replied with a blatant, ‘No.’

“I don’t know what the title would be,” he declared. “but I feel just as much woman as I am man.”

The 25 year old performer also made revelations about his love for dressing up in feminine attires, also speaking on the time when he only had “women clothing” on his wardrobe.

“People don’t know this, but when I was 17, I remember becoming obsessed with Boy George and Marilyn,” Smith told the publication. “There was one moment in my life when I didn’t own a piece of male clothing, really.”

Speaking further on the time he would more often than not, dress up in female clothing as a youngster, Smith said, “I would wear full makeup every day at school—eyelashes, leggings with Dr Martens and huge fur coats, for two and a half years.” He further continued, “I got teased a lot for it. But there were also people respecting me for walking around like that in my school.”

Smith also told the interviewer, how he still never misses to stop by at the Australian drag shop House of Priscilla in Sydney, whenever he makes a visit to the city. “Oh, my god, I just buy everything—heels, dresses,” he said. “We have a great time.”
