Jay Z’s alleged tale of infidelity has been of much discussion over the past couple of years – which also involved, wife, Beyonce’s penning down her heartbreak in a song (Remember, Becky with the good hair?)

Only now, the rapper has officially come out to not only acknowledge that things did turn sour between the two, but also put an explanation to why Beyonce didn’t leave him despite being cheated on.

In a revealing sit down with The New York Times, the legendary MC discussed how they went through the painful situation together and how their respective confessional albums have served as therapy to both.

“You know, most people walk away, and like divorce rate is like 50 percent or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves,” Jay said in the interview. “The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself.”

He further added, “The best place is right in the middle of the pain. And that’s where we were sitting. And it was uncomfortable. And we had a lot of conversations.”

Speaking on working on music while dealing with the after-effects of infidelity, Jay said, “…we were using our art almost like a therapy session. And we started making music together.”

“You have to survive. So you go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode, what happens? You shut down all emotions. So, even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can’t connect. … In my case, like, it’s deep. And then all the things happen from there: infidelity.”
