Music legend Neil Diamond has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The iconic singer made the announcement of his retirement on Monday, citing the recent diagnosis of his ailment as the reason. Acting upon doctor’s suggestion, the musician has cancelled the third leg of his “50th Anniversary tour” – which was scheduled to launch in March.

“I plan to remain active in writing, recording and other projects for a long time to come,” Diamond said in his statement.

Thanking his fans, for what sounded like a melancholy farewell, Neil said: “My thanks goes out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world. You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement.”

“The ride has been ‘so good, so good, so good’ thanks to you.”

Neil’s announcement of retirement comes only a few days before him being honored with a lifetime achievement award at the upcoming Grammy ceremony – which as we believe, would now seem like a poetic homage to his career achievements.
