David Schwimmer Says He Had to ‘Push’ For Ross’ Girlfriend to be ‘Non-White’ on Friends

David Schwimmer says he was well aware of the lack of diversity on the iconic 90’s sitcom, ‘Friends’, in which he played the role of Ross Geller.

The actor recently revealed that he had to actually ‘push’ for his love-interest in the series to be a ‘non-white’ woman, which was eventually made-out to be an African American female, played out by Aisha Tyler.

Talking about how he persuaded the makers on the subject, here is what he was recently quoted as telling The Guardian:

“Maybe there should be an all-black Friends or an all-Asian Friends. But I was well aware of the lack of diversity and I campaigned for years to have Ross date women of color.”

He further added:

“One of the first girlfriends I had on the show was an Asian American woman, and later I dated African American women. That was a very conscious push on my part.”

Not much surprising anyway, considering that the lack of diversity on the show was pretty evident since the beginning.
