Hair Love – the Oscar winning short animated feature, which took home the golden statue during the 2020 Academy award ceremony, is now getting a wider buzz than it did before – all thanks to that win.
The Mathew A. Cherry directed nearly-7 minute visual tells a heartwarming tale of an African American father doing the hair of his young daughter for the first time – ‘for a special meeting’, that awaits in the second-half of those 6 minute 47 seconds.
Cherry – who’s previously executive-produced Oscar-nominated – BlacKkKlansman, financed this short feature through a Kickstarter campaign, which initially set the goal of achieving $75,000 through donations, but ended up receiving over $300,000.
The movie was released on May 14, 2019, and became a New York Times Bestseller, but it is only now that the flick is getting worldwide acclaim and popularity.
