Jason Derulo On His Cats Role: “I thought it was gonna change the world”

Jason Derulo believed that the feature film ‘Cats’ was really going to be groundbreaking, up until the point it got it’s first public unveiling.

In a recent interview, the singer is heard dishing on the possibilities, he believed the project had and how optimistic he was about being part of an award-winning, major cast and team that the film boasted off.

We all know now, what the movie and it’s critical and audience reception turned out like, but Derulo insists that he had no reason to presume that, beforehand.

In a recent interview with Telegraph, he spoke of the high hopes he had with the project.

“For the longest time, I was trying to figure out what’s the perfect first role. Cats checked all the boxes,” he said. “You can’t get a more start-studded cast, you don’t get a more respected director than an Oscar winner, and Rum Tum Tugger is a legacy role, a standout character in a classic musical.”

The 30 year old insisted that even when he first saw the trailer, he liked it so much that he got chills.

“Even when I saw the trailer, I got chills down my spine! I thought it was gonna change the world.”

Released in December 2019, the movie – made on a budget of nearly $100 million, tanked at the box office, grossing no more than $75.5 million worldwide.

The critical and audience reception was so poor, that it became the butt of all jokes during the following award season.

Apparently, Jason had no reason to see it all in advance, working alongside the likes of Judy Dench, Jennifer Hudson and Ian McKellen.

We don’t blame ya, Jason!
