Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, Celine – Who Was The Definitive Female Superstar Of The 90’s?

90’s can pretty much be summed up as an era in music – which floated between the powerhouse divas and the Hip-Hop titans.

The entire decade witnessed some of the biggest selling female artists in history – experiencing the absolute peak of their respective careers. It was like – there was room for all, and yet so much variety among female artists.



With Whitney Houston first creating a bankable market for big-voiced female balladeers, which followed-up with similar success for her in the 90’s, the likes of Mariah Carey and Celine Dion, were able to make the most of it with their debut in the early 90’s, singing for an audience – that suddenly seemed to be craving for great vocals.

 

Similarly, Toni Braxton got to spend eleven weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts, with her David Foster-produced mega-hit – ‘Un-Break My Heart’, while the likes of Madonna and Janet Jackson continued to produce their own string of hits, the way they did in the 80’s.
