Actor Powers Boothe, known for ‘Guayana Tragedy’ and ‘Sin City’, dies at age 68

Powers Allen Boothe – most notably known for his Emmy-winning role of Jim Jones in ‘Guayana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones’ has passed away at the age of 68.

The Emmy winning actor reportedly passed away in his sleep due to natural causes as told by his publicist Karen Samfilippo to Entertainment Weekly.

Born in June 1, 1948, on a farm in Scurry County, Texas Powers Boothe first started-off  in Broadway in the mid to late 70’s after graduating from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.

Boothe’s career took a flight in the 1980’s, after playing the role of Jim Jones in the CBS-TV movie – ‘Guayana Tragedy’ – his critically acclaimed performance in the movie brought him national attention and an Emmy award. He later featured in his portrayal of detective Philip Marlowe in a string of television movies for HBO. He later on starred in several made-for-television as well as theatrical flicks like Tombstone, Blue Sky, Family of Spies, Red Dawn Extreme Prejudice among others.

He last appeared on the big-screen in the year 2014, with his role of Senetor Roark in the Robert Rodriguez directed action-crime film, “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” and his last Television appearance was as the voice of Mayor Eo Jaxxon in the 2016 adult animated series – Moonbeam City.

The actor passed away on Sunday, 14 May – as the news was first broke by his friend and actor, Beau Bridges as he tweeted, “It’s with great sadness that I mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe. A dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband.”
