Although the very first allegation of sexual assault against Cosby was made almost 10 years ago, no criminal charges were pressed at that time. The issue came to the limelight again in 2014, when a comedian’s remark on the incident went viral and a shocking number of women came forward with claims of sexual assault, some of which dated back to the 60’s and 70’s.
Most of the allegations revolved around similar circumstances, where it was claimed that the actor first drugged and then assaulted the women.
In the segment with SeriusXM, the 79 year old started off by emphasising that the allegations may have been driven by racism. “I can’t say anything, but there are certain things that I look at, and I apply to the situation, and there are so many tentacles. So many different — nefarious is a great word. And I just truly believe that some of it may very well be that,” Cosby said when asked to comment on his daughter’s recent claims in which she stated, “racism has played a big role in all aspects of this scandal.”
When it was pointed out to Cosby, that the allegations have been made by both black and white women, he rebutted saying “Let me put it to you this way: When you look at the power structure, and when you look at individuals, there are some people who can very well be motivated by whether or not they’re going to work. Or whether or not they might be able to get back at someone. So if it’s in terms of whatever the choice is, I think that you can also examine individuals and situations and they will come out differently. So it’s not all, not every, but I do think that there’s some.”
