Michael Nyqvist, ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ and ‘Mission Impossible’ actor, dies at 56

Sweden-born actor Michael Nyqvist, who’s known for his roles in the original ‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ series has passed away at the age of 56.

In a statement released by Nyqvist’s family and representatives it was confirmed that the actor died after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

“Michael’s joy and passion were infectious to those who knew and loved him. His charm and charisma were undeniable, and his love for the arts was felt by all who had the pleasure of working with him.”

One of Sweden’s most popular and accomplished actors, Nyqvist first came to prominence in the early 2000’s for his acclaimed work in movies like ‘Together,’ ‘The Guy In The Grave Next Door’ and the Academy award nominated ‘As It Is In Heaven.’

The actor was internationally recognized for his appearances in movies like “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol” and “John Wick” starring opposite stars like Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves and also for his role of Mikael Blomkvist in the Swedish ‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ series.

Michael is survived by his wife Catharina and two children.
