New Edition to receive Lifetime Achievement honor at the 2017 BET Awards

2017 BET awards will take you back to the 80’s to honor the multi-platinum selling, influential RnB group ‘New Edition’ during their upcoming ceremony.

Billboard reported that the recently reunited band will receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement award for musical and career accomplishments.

New Edition was formed in the year 1978, and had a string of hits in the 1980’s, like ‘Candy Girl’, ‘Cool It Now’ and ‘Mr. Telephone Man’ to name a few. The original band constituted of Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe and Ralph Tresvant – however later in 1988 singer Johnny Gill was added to the lineage after Bobby Brown was voted out of the group in 1985.

The group had several break-ups and reunions over the years after that occasionally releasing albums like, ‘Home Again’ and ‘One Love’

The classic RnB band received their star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame earlier this year and is set to hit the studio once again to record a brand new album.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that hip-hop star ‘Chance The Rapper’ will also receive a special Humanitarian award for his contribution towards the African-American community.
