‘Girls Trip’ wins at the Box Office: Opens with the biggest numbers of 2017 for a live-action comedy

‘Girls Trip’ is raking in the moolah at the box-office, as opening numbers of the comedy flick suggest.

The Malcolm D. Lee directed comedy has grossed a staggering $30.4 million during it’s opening weekend and is headed for a #2 debut on the Top 10 grossers of the week.
The movie has managed to earn way over it’s mild budget of less than $20 million, within the first weekend – giving it the largest box office collection of the year, for a live-action comedy.
Co-produced by Lee himself, the movie features Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish and Jada Pinkett Smith who venture out in a fun-filled retreat over a weekend to New Orleans’s Essence Music Festival, in a ride encapsulated with sisterhood and rediscovering their individual identities.
The commercial achievement of the out and out comedy is extra-special, for a concept executed with black females in the lead – further shattering box-office norms and stereotypes.
More power to these girls and congratulations to the whole team of ‘Girls Trip.’
