Every era of music has had at least one girl-group, defining and embodying the musicality of their respective times in their own different ways.
From the record-chattering Pop-success of the Diana Ross-lead group, ‘The Supremes’ and the politically charged and power-packed influential jams by Patti Labelle and The Bluebelles’ to the infectious RnB and Hip-Hop-infused beats of Destiny’s Child and TLC – who ruled the charts throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s.
Although the overall look and sound may have changed during this course of time, there is no denying the fact that some of the best songs and biggest superstars from each of these era’s originated from the good old girl-bands (a la Beyonce, Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle).
So, let us reflect back at each of the girl group-era’s that stretch as early as the path-breaking divas of 1950’s to the hip-swinging RnB game-changers of the 90’s.
