Mariah Carey has lately been going through a lot in her professional life.
From the constant tumbles her live performances have taken following the infamous New Year eve performance, Carey has consistently faced backlash for everything, from her so-called “lackluster” performances to being publicly fat-shamed by the Paparazzi.
In a moment of exhale, Carey recently had an intimate conversation with Page Six, where she showed her vulnerable side once again and reminded everyone, that she deserves just as much respect as anybody else.
“I just feel like I am a regular human being and I deserve the same respect as anybody else,” Mariah told Page Six. “I have always had low self-esteem, and people do not recognize that.”

Mariah further continued on what contributed to her insecurities. “Growing up different, being biracial, having the whole thing where I did not know if I fit in … That is why music became such a big part of my life, because it helped me overcome those issues.”
Carey also recounted the time when she was struggling to make in the music biz and did not even have enough food to eat. “I remember it not being easy getting a record deal. Making demos in the middle of the night, sleeping on the floor in the studio, being broke with no food.”
She further continued, remembering her ordeal, “My go-to meal was [Newman’s Own] sauce. Me and my friend would split the pasta and sauce for, like, a week. Or it was, like, a bagel and iced tea … The guy would give it to me at the deli for free.”
