Pink receives MTV’s Vanguard honor from Ellen Degeneres. Delivers a moving speech

As previously announced, Pink was awarded the prestigious Michael Jackson Vanguard Honor at the 2017 MTV VMA’s on Sunday.

The ‘What About Us’ singer was honored for her “trailblazing impact on music, pop culture, fashion and philanthropy.”
During her powerful and moving acceptance speech, Pink shared a little personal story of the time her 6 year old daughter approached her saying that she feels like the ugliest girl she knows.
The rebellious Pop star said she then went back home and created a power-point presentation with “androgynous rock stars” who stayed true to themselves and still inspired millions worldwide. “Artists that live their truth,” she said. “are probably made fun of every day of their lives, and carry on, and wave their flag, and inspire the rest of us.”
Speaking on how she too is subjected to remarks that attempt to demean her by telling her that she looks like a boy, Pink revealed how she made her daughter understand how she never changed herself despite of all the negative comments. “They say that I look like a boy, or I am too masculine, too many opinions, my body is too strong,” she said. “And I said, ‘Do you see me growing my hair?’ And she said, ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me changing my body?’ ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?’ ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world?’ ‘Yes, mama.'”

“So, baby, girl, we don’t change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl,” the Grammy winning superstar concluded.
